Maso Poli

1978: acquisition and creation of an independent estate

Luigi Togn acquired Maso Poli in 1978. Following the purchase, it became an independent agricultural producer within the Togn family's wine holdings. Its wines were positioned for curious, wine-focused consumers and a niche market at a time of rapid change in the wine trade.

By 2019, Maso Poli remained one of the Togn family's properties alongside Azienda Vinicola Valdadige, Gaierhof and Lechthaler. Unlike Gaierhof's négociant model, Maso Poli has 10 hectares of estate-owned vineyards.

The wider Trentino setting combines mineral-rich soils with sunny daytime conditions and cooler evenings. These conditions allow the grapes to remain on the vine later and develop greater flavour and aromatic intensity. Vineyard placement is matched to soil type, microclimate and exposure.

Harvesting is carried out by hand. The winemaker authorizes the start of picking only when three maturity indicators have reached their desired balance: sugar concentration, tannin maturity and sufficient acidity.

Grapes are transferred to the winery immediately after picking, reducing oxidation risk from the harvest stage onward. Fruit from each vineyard is handled separately so that the individual terroirs retain their distinguishing characteristics.
