Storia
Early 1980s: foundation
In the early 1980s Carlo Vittori, already a consultant to several well-known, established companies, bought his first plots of land on the southern and southwestern side of the Montalcino hill, near the village of Castelnuovo dell'Abate. The whole Vittori family supported the initiative and invested actively in developing the land. This is how Molino di Sant'Antimo was born.
It was a pioneering venture. The area was almost abandoned, home to only a few families growing grapes and olives, and not yet part of modern production and marketing systems.
Today
The winery owns 40 hectares stretching as far as the Orcia River. The vineyards were planted gradually over many years.
Terroir
The estate lies on the southern and southwestern side of the Montalcino hill, near the village of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, and extends as far as the Orcia River. Soils are a mix of shale, marl and gravel, rich in mineral salts. When the winery was founded the area was almost abandoned, with only a few families growing grapes and olives.
Vinificazione
The modern cellar covers 800 square metres and provides plenty of space for storing wine. The aging area holds large casks of French Allier oak, as well as barrels of French and American oak.
Filosofia
The winery describes its philosophy as based on respect for nature and the ancient traditions passed down by previous generations.
