Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are in Franciacorta, Lombardy, where the Central Alps and surrounding hills provide shelter from strong winds and contribute to a moderately temperate climate. The soils are sandy, mineral-rich and well drained.
Grapes
The blend comprises 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Nero. Chardonnay contributes freshness and finesse to the bouquet, while Pinot Nero gives roundness and length.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into small crates, then carefully sorted and gently pressed. The first fermentation takes place exclusively in 250-litre oak barrels from September to February. A second fermentation follows in the bottle.
Ageing
The wine is aged on its lees in the bottle; the description does not specify its exact duration.
Tasting profile
The aroma is delicate and refreshing, with the Chardonnay adding freshness and finesse. The palate is graceful, elegant and well balanced, with distinctive roundness and length from the Pinot Nero.
Label / history
Before 2001, Cabochon Rosé had been released only in the 1992 and 1995 vintages.
