Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Vaio comes from vineyards in the Morellino di Scansano area. Refinement takes place in Villa Poggio Salvi’s cellars in Montalcino, near the barrels used for Brunello.
Ageing
The wine is refined in the Montalcino cellars and is characterized by considerable capacity for further development and ageing.
Tasting profile
Structured, complex aromas are combined with the fruit and freshness of a young red wine.
Label / history
The name is connected with invaiatura, the stage of ripening that begins around August as grape skins gradually darken. Vaio is an old adjective for something spotted or dappled with dark marks and for fruit, olives or grapes turning dark as they ripen. The name preserves this otherwise forgotten word.
Beginning with the 2007 harvest, Morellino di Scansano gained DOCG status and became Tuscany’s seventh DOCG.
