Vineyard and terroir
The Gran Selezione is the estate’s cru, made from a selection from its oldest vineyard, Vigna le Cataste. The 40-year-old vineyard lies in Monsanto–Barberino Val d'Elsa and faces north-west toward Barberino Val d'Elsa. Its soils combine limestone and clay with sections of schist, calcareous-clay galestro and sandstone. The vines are Guyot-trained, and yields are 25 hl/ha. Farming follows certified organic protocols.
Grapes
95% Sangiovese and 5% Malvasia Nera.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Traditional vinification takes place in temperature-controlled steel and cement containers, with a long maceration.
