Vineyard and terroir
The Riserva is a small-volume selection of Sangiovese from hillside vineyards in Monsanto–Barberino Tavarnelle. Half overlook the northern valley toward Barberino, while half face south toward Castellina. Limestone and clay soils include sections of schist, calcareous-clay galestro and sandstone. The vines are Guyot-trained, with yields of 25 hl/ha. The grapes are grown under certified organic farming protocols.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Traditional vinification takes place in temperature-controlled steel and cement containers, with a medium-long maceration.
Ageing
About 24 months in 27 hl and 5 hl oak barrels, followed by additional ageing in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol: 13–14.5%. Production is approximately 5,000 bottles, released in 750 ml format.
Label / history
First produced in 1997, the Riserva is a limited Sangiovese selection given longer maturation in oak and further ageing in glass.
