Storia
Foundation, 1860
Rallo was founded in 1860 by the winemaker Don Diego Rallo, who gained worldwide recognition for his Marsala table wines. He had no vineyards of his own and bought carefully selected grapes from other estates, ensuring that only the finest-quality fruit was used. This required considerable investment. His wines were served by some of Italy's most respected families and repeatedly received major awards at leading international competitions.
Sale of the company
The high cost of maintaining this quality proved unsustainable, and Don Diego was forced to sell the company.
Today
Rallo is led by Francesco Vesco, a descendant of the Vesco family. The winery now owns vineyards in three areas of western Sicily: Piane Liquide (Marsala), Bugeber (Pantelleria) and Patti Piccolo (Alcamo). Its winemaking facility is housed in a historic building.
Terroir
The vineyards lie in three areas of western Sicily: Piane Liquide on the western coast of Marsala, Bugeber on the island of Pantelleria, and Patti Piccolo in Alcamo.
Vinificazione
All vineyards are farmed organically, without any chemical treatments, in line with strict BIOSUISSE guidelines. The winery practises organic viticulture with respect for nature and its resources.
The winemaking facility is housed in a historic building, combining tradition with contemporary practice. Advanced methods and technology are used to preserve a centuries-old winemaking culture. Production is controlled carefully at every stage. Rallo makes certified organic wines from the classic grape varieties of western Sicily.
Filosofia
The winery says it aims to make wines that are both rich and delicate, expressing the character of the terroir and Sicily's long winemaking traditions. It holds that careful control at every stage, organic viticulture and respect for nature and its resources have led to its results.
