Vineyard and terroir

The production area is Greve in Chianti, Tuscany. The vines occupy steep hillsides over quartzitic blue-grey sandstone interlayered with sand and calcareous material. They are Guyot-trained and pruned to a maximum of five to eight buds per vine.

Grapes

85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot.

Vinification

The grapes are softly pressed and fermented in stainless-steel tanks for 10 days. Temperature is controlled while alternating between 16°C and 24°C, and macro-oxygenation is employed.

Ageing

The wine matures for nine months in French oak barrels, followed by at least five months in bottle before release.

Tasting profile

Brilliant ruby red with garnet highlights. Aromas of cherry, red plum and currant are layered with earth, rose petal and leather. Full-bodied and firmly structured, with integrated tannins, ample spice and a long finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C with grilled red meats, bordelaise sauces, bistecca alla Fiorentina or butter-poached veal shank.
