Label / history
Merlot was brought to Friuli in 1869 by the French nobleman Teodoro de La Tour and became one of the region’s most popular red varieties. Traditionally, ordering a glass of red in an old local tavern would usually mean Merlot, just as ordering white would mean Tocai Friulano. Many older people in Friuli consider Merlot native to the region and use Merlot as its local name.
