Vineyard and terroir
La Prima is a 2.2 ha vineyard at Castello Vicchiomaggio in Greve in Chianti. Its Sangiovese vines grow at 250 m on heavy soil containing 30% clay. Planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare, trained to single Guyot.

Sangiovese from the La Prima vineyard with a small proportion of Merlot.
Vinification
Vinification takes place in 50 hl stainless-steel vats, with 15 days of skin contact.
Ageing
The wine matures for 26 months in French barriques, including both new and second-use barrels. A further eight months of bottle maturation precedes release. The extended barrique maturation is intended to develop complexity and elegance.
Tasting profile
Garnet red. The concentrated bouquet brings together berry jelly, chocolate, coffee, cardamom, graphite and myrtle. The palate is powerful and savoury, with dense, ripe tannins. Herbs and fruit carry through the very long finish.
