Vineyard and terroir
Le Bolle comes from a 1.7 ha site described as the stoniest vineyard on the Castello Vicchiomaggio estate. The vineyard lies at 250 m above sea level and is planted at 5,000 vines per hectare, trained to single Guyot. Production is kept to approximately 50 hl/ha. Its name is the geographical name of a small village bordering the castle.
Grapes
Sangiovese.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel vats for approximately 15 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately 26 months in new French oak barriques, followed by about eight months in bottle before release.
Tasting profile
An intensely structured Sangiovese with forceful tannins.
Label / history
The first vintage was 2016. The name Le Bolle refers to the small village adjoining Castello Vicchiomaggio.
