Vineyard and terroir

The 8 ha Vieris vineyard lies in Mariano del Friuli at 31 m above sea level. Its well-drained alluvial soils are stony and sandy, with a slightly reddish hue from iron and aluminium oxides. The vines average 15 years of age and are planted at 6,000 vines/ha. Yields are 4,500 kg/ha, approximately 0.7 kg per vine.

Grapes

The vineyard includes both French and Italian clones.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in late September. After destemming, the berries undergo a short maceration at 8 °C under inert gas. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at 16–19 °C for 25 days.

Ageing

The wine rests on its lees in French oak barriques for 8–10 months, followed by eight months in bottle.

Tasting profile

Rich and complex.

Label / history

The wine takes its name from the Vieris vineyard.
