Storia
1972
The Cantina Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano cooperative winery was founded when a small group of winemakers from Scansano decided to join forces and make wine together. The group grew quickly.
1980s
While other cooperatives focused on volume, the cooperative took the more difficult path and committed to quality. This required major investment from the members and a great deal of work in the vineyards. Some members chose to leave the cooperative, but those who stayed were especially determined to succeed.
Later years
Several decades later, the founders' sacrifices began to pay off year after year. Under president Benedetto Grechi, who ensured continuity for 30 years, the cooperative's vineyards expanded to 700 ha, mainly around Scansano, Magliano in Toscana and Pitigliano.
Today
The cooperative has around 170 members in total and remains focused on quality. Its current goal is to build a strong presence in a new market: the HoReCa sector, both in Italy and abroad.
Terroir
Vineyards are located mainly around Scansano, Magliano in Toscana and Pitigliano.
Vinificazione
Members undertook a great deal of work in the vineyards as part of the cooperative's shift toward a quality-focused approach in the 1980s, which required major investment.
Filosofia
While other cooperatives focused on volume, Cantina Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano took the more difficult path and committed to quality, a choice that required major investment from members and significant vineyard work. Those who remained after some members left were especially determined to succeed, and their efforts have paid off over the decades. The cooperative continues to focus on quality and is now aiming to build a strong presence in the HoReCa sector, both in Italy and abroad.
