Storia
Founding (1927)
Mottura Vini del Salento was founded by Pascal Mottura in 1927.
1940s
Large iron barrels of wine were loaded onto trains bound for Naples, Rome and Milan.
1960s
Mottura became the first company in its region to bottle and sell its own wine.
Today
After more than 80 years of growing grapes and making wine, the fourth generation of the Mottura family runs the company, which combines long-standing traditions with new professional expertise and modern technology.
Terroir
The estate is in Tuglie, a small town in the south of the Salento peninsula. The vineyards lie in an area bordered by the towns of Cellino San Marco, Campi Salentina, Salice Salentino and Squinzano. The soils are rich in iron, with layers of clay and limestone that help produce generous harvests.
Vinificazione
Most of the vineyards are bush-trained (vines averaging 60 years old) or grown on vertical trellises (vines averaging 10-15 years old).
The estate's home is a late-19th-century Baroque farmhouse, with cellars that hold the secrets of the family's old villa. The wines age slowly in oak barrels, developing their aromas, colour and flavour.
Filosofia
The company describes itself as combining respect for long-standing traditions with new professional expertise and modern technology, and as having a deep connection to the land.
