About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Fieramonte comes from the homonymous vineyard in Mazzurega at 415 m a.s.l. The site faces south-east and has clay and pebbly soils rich in structure, with magnesium and iron. Vines are Guyot-trained and average 18 years in the 2018 technical sheet.
Grapes and harvest
The blend is led by Corvina and Corvinone, complemented by Rondinella and Oseleta. Manual harvest with vineyard sorting takes place in the second decade of September.
Appassimento and vinification
The grapes dry in the fruttaio and lose 40-45% of their original weight. Destemming and pressing are carried out carefully in January, followed by fermentation in stainless steel.
Ageing
Maturation takes place in new French oak barriques for at least 48 months. After blending, the wine rests 6 months before bottling and then ages at least 24 months in bottle before release.
Technical data
Vintage 2018. Alcohol 16.5% vol. Total acidity 7.30 g/l. Residual sugar 3.9 g/l. Dry extract 40.8 g/l. pH 3.50. Formats include 750 ml and 1.5 L.
Tasting profile
A wine of appassimento balance between body and freshness, with violet, cherry, dried fruit, coffee, licorice and dark chocolate, finishing intense and vibrant.
Vintage notes
The 2018 harvest was long, with slow ripening and high quality. Rainy spring conditions and heavy rain before harvest were balanced by improved September weather and a 15 deg C day-night range, supporting aromatic precursors and healthy ripening.
Pairing and awards
Pairings include braised dishes, roasted lamb, wild boar, very aged cheeses and 90% dark chocolate. Fieramonte 2015 and 2016 received 100 points from Decanter in consecutive years, and Fieramonte was Decanter Best Red of the Year 2019.
