About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from estate vineyards in the Monforte d’Alba area. The vines are 4–18 years old and grow at 300–350 m above sea level on south- and southwest-facing slopes, in marl and white tuff soils.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed at the winery. Skin maceration lasts around 16 days at a controlled temperature of 25–30 °C. Fermentation uses only natural yeasts.
Ageing
The wine matures for 30 months in large 25–30 hL oak casks, followed by six months in bottle in the winery’s cellars before release.
Vintage notes
The 2018 winter in Piedmont was long, cold and snowy, followed by severe spring frosts. Heavy rain in May and June brought relief after the harsh droughts of previous years, although some areas suffered hail and disease was a major challenge. Overall, warm days and cool nights provided favourable conditions during harvest. The 2018 vintage was expected to show at its best from 2023 to 2028.
