About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the estate's vineyards in the Visette area of Monforte d'Alba. Vines are 20 to 50 years old and grow at 300–350 m above sea level on south- and southwest-facing slopes. Soils are marl and white tuff.

Vinification

Grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed at the winery. Skin maceration lasts 20 days at controlled temperature. Fermentation is spontaneous, with natural yeasts.

Ageing

The wine ages 30 months in oak: 70% in large botti of 25–30 hL and 30% in small barriques. It then rests a further 6 months in bottle in the winery's cellars before release.

Vintage notes

2018: the winter in Piedmont was long, cold and snowy, followed by severe spring frosts. May and June brought heavy rain, welcome after the harsh droughts of previous years. Some areas were hit by hail, and disease was a major challenge. Even so, the weather was generally good, with warm days and cool nights favouring the harvest. The 2018 is expected to be at its best between 2026 and 2033.

Label / history

"Visette" comes from the dialect word "vis", meaning small vines.
