About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a 2 ha vineyard in Verduno at 300 m above sea level. The south-facing site has limestone and silt soils, and its vines are between 15 and 40 years old.
Vinification
Harvest begins by hand in the second half of October. The grapes are transported to the winery in small 20 kg crates and vinified as whole bunches in open French oak vats. Fermentation and maceration last around two months, with regular punching down of the cap, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for around three years in 35–50 hl French and Slavonian oak barrels. It is usually bottled in August and rests in the winery’s cellars for at least another nine months before release.
Tasting profile
Refined and delicate.
Vintage notes
The 2018 winter in Piedmont was long, cold and snowy, followed by severe spring frosts. Heavy rain in May and June was welcome after the severe droughts of previous years. Some areas experienced hail, while disease presented a major challenge. Despite these difficulties, the season was generally favourable, with warm days and cool nights during harvest. The vintage is expected to reach its peak between 2024 and 2045.
Label / history
The wine was first released in 1982.
