History
Founding
Cantina Marilina was founded by Angelo Paterno, who had worked at various wineries across Sicily since the age of 18. In 2001, having gained considerable experience, Angelo decided it was time to work for himself. He moved to Noto after falling in love with the Val di Noto area, whose soils and climate he already knew well.
Building the Estate
Construction of the cellar began in 2007 and was completed in 2009. The young estate gradually grew to 60 ha, with only 35 ha planted with vines, the remainder used for pasture and olive groves. All work on the land follows organic principles.
The Next Generation
Angelo's daughters, Marilina and Federica, grew up close to nature, and it was not long before they chose to devote their lives to the family estate. Today, Marilina is fully involved in managing many aspects of the work in both the vineyards and the cellar.
Terroir
The estate is located in Noto, in the Val di Noto area, whose soils and climate Angelo Paterno already knew well before founding the winery there.
Winemaking
All work on the land follows organic principles.
The estate deliberately avoids aging its wines in stainless steel tanks, using concrete vats instead, which are traditional in this region. Every cuvée is fermented, macerated, and aged in concrete. Sulfur dioxide additions at bottling are kept to a minimum.
Philosophy
The estate deliberately avoids aging its wines in stainless steel tanks, favoring the traditional concrete vats of the region for fermentation, maceration, and aging, and keeps sulfur dioxide additions at bottling to a minimum.
