About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Fruit comes principally from the estate’s various plots at Località Canale in Castellina in Chianti. The contiguous holding is described as approximately 10 hectares and south-facing; the technical vineyard size is 10.40 hectares, with varied exposures and an average elevation of 300 m. The medium-textured soils are deep and fertile, with clay and Galestro stone. Vine age ranges from new plantings to 35 years. Planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare and average yield is 1.2 kg per vine. Spur and cane pruning are used.
Grapes
Predominantly Sangiovese, with Ciliegiolo and other red grapes. Exact proportions are not given.
Vinification
Harvest runs from the second half of September through the first half of October. Maceration lasts 10–12 days at approximately 28°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in steel.
Ageing
At least one year in traditional Chianti barrels is followed by another three months in steel and six months in bottle.
Technical data
Annual production is approximately 150,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Red with violet reflections. The nose is intense, fruity and vinous, with a distinct cherry character. The palate combines complexity and structure with a pronounced fresh note and lively tannins integrated into the wine’s extract. The overall balance is fruit-driven and structured.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16°C. Pair with white meats, red meats and medium-aged cheeses.
