About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

This estate cru draws principally on selected fruit from the Pietrafitta and Canale areas of Castellina in Chianti, with the vineyard entry identifying Casanuova di Pietrafitta as the main source. Pietrafitta occupies the upper part of Castellina at around 530 m. Its north-eastern exposure creates a cooler, ventilated setting that supports even ripening. Surrounding woodland protects the vines and helps preserve local biodiversity.

The medium-textured soil contains clay and abundant rock fragments characteristic of the Alberese area. The technical vine-age range is 10–35 years, while the descriptive text gives an average of 20 years. Planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare and average yield is 1 kg per vine. Spur and cane pruning are used.

Grapes

Sangiovese with Canaiolo and Malvasia Nera. Exact proportions are not given. The vineyard narrative emphasizes the selection of Sangiovese from the oldest and best-exposed sites.

Vinification

Harvest takes place during the first half of October. Maceration lasts 10–12 days at approximately 28°C. Malolactic fermentation occurs in steel.

Ageing
