History
The Salvaneschi family has always made wine, initially only for their own use and for agricultural cooperatives.
2010
Roberto and his brother Mauro, the third generation of the Salvaneschi family, began producing their own wine under the Cascina Gasparda name, together with their mother Patrizia and their father Salvaneschi. From the start, they followed organic principles in the vineyard and later moved towards biodynamic practices in the cellar.
Since 2010
Over time, the family was able to rent several more vineyards. Today they produce 15,000 bottles a year, all from the land of Monferrato Casalese.
Terroir
The estate lies in Olivola, in the Ghenza Valley, in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of Monferrato. Vineyard soils range from red and grey clay to white limestone and marl plots, described as a natural setting for Grignolino.
Winemaking
The family has followed organic principles in the vineyard from the start of the Cascina Gasparda project in 2010, later moving toward biodynamic practices in the cellar.
To soften the impressive structure and tannins of their powerful red wines, Mauro and Roberto age them for a long time in small, old barrels. The resulting wines are full-bodied and firm, yet rich and elegant, generally high in alcohol without this affecting their drinkability.
Philosophy
Cascina Gasparda describes its wines as full-bodied and firm, yet rich and elegant. It notes that the wines are generally high in alcohol, but that this never gets in the way of their drinkability.
