About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Nebbiolo comes from hillside vineyards in La Morra, including Bricco San Biagio and Cappallotti. The sites lie at 250–300 m above sea level and have south-easterly and south-westerly exposures. Their soils combine sand, limestone and clay. The vines average 20 years of age, with a planting density of 3,800 vines per hectare and a yield of 50 hl/ha.

Bricco San Biagio stands opposite the cellar and covers four hectares facing south to south-west, much of it planted to Nebbiolo for Barolo. Cappallotti lies close to the cellar, in the hamlet from which the Oberto family originated.

Grapes

Vinification

Traditional temperature-controlled vinification and maceration take place in concrete tanks.

Ageing

Matured in Slavonian oak barrels.

Technical data

Alcohol is 14–14.5%, with acidity of 5.4–5.6 g/L. Annual production is 8,000 bottles. Formats are 0.75 L, 1.5 L and 3 L, and the minimum stated cellar life is 10 years.

Tasting profile

Pale garnet red with ruby highlights. Wild rose, violet and broom shape the bouquet, while plum, strawberry, red fig and carob lead the palate alongside sweet spice and liquorice. Fresh, delicate and floral, the wine combines pleasant, supple tannins with an acidic line that is present but well integrated into its body. The finish has excellent persistence. Its broader profile balances power and elegance, with further nuances of withered rose, balsamic tones and spice.

Serving and pairing

Suited to roasted red meat, game and medium-mature cheeses.
