About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Nebbiolo comes from a single vineyard in the highest and best-exposed portion of the Rocche dell’Annunziata subzone in La Morra. The soil is Marne di Sant’Agata marl with layers of clay, and planting density is 4,800 vines per hectare.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Maceration lasts three weeks at 27°C.

Ageing

Total maturation extends for five years, including 24 months in oak barrels.

Tasting profile

The colour is an intense garnet red. The full, expansive bouquet brings together wilted rose, violet, overripe and jammy fruit, pomegranate, apricot, white-peach stone and dates, with balsamic and spicy nuances. The palate has substantial structure moderated by elegant, soft tannins, followed by a fresh, long and persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–17°C. Pairing suggestions include venison with blueberries, bay leaf and roasted rosemary; beef bourguignon; slow-cooked pulled pork; asado de tira; and char siu. Cellaring potential is 15–25 years.

Label / history

Produced only in the best years, Bricco Francesco takes its name from Francesco Costamagna, founder and great-grandfather of the current owners.

Technical data

The 0.75 L bottle is packed in a six-bottle wooden case; the 1.5 L magnum is also presented in a wooden case.
