About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Nebbiolo grows in Castelletto, in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. The steep vineyard has a south-east exposure, a gradient of 50–55% and an elevation of 400–450 m. Its grey-brown or yellowish soil comprises layers of sand with differing degrees of compactness, interspersed with grey sandstone.
Castelletto is a cool hill site whose sunlight moves from east to south. Nearby woodland and a small river moderate the setting, encouraging slow vine growth and wines described as medium-bodied, elegant and flavourful.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks with approximately 12 days of maceration. Malolactic fermentation follows.
Ageing
The wine is transferred to barrels immediately after malolactic fermentation.
Tasting profile
A powerfully structured Barolo. The broader Castelletto character is medium-bodied, elegant and flavourful.
Serving and pairing
Particularly suited to red meats and braised meats; it also pairs well with cheese.
