About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Costasera takes its identity from the west-facing slopes of Valpolicella Classica. These vineyards look toward the sunset and Lake Garda. Their longer period of daylight, the reflection of light from the lake and its moderating climate help the grapes reach full ripeness.

Grapes

Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, the traditional native varieties of Valpolicella Classica.

Vinification

The grapes rest on bamboo racks during the winter months. This appassimento period concentrates their aromas before vinification.

Technical data

Alcohol: 15% vol. Formats are 375 ml, 750 ml, 1,500 ml and 3,000 ml, with a 5,000 ml format for old vintages. Ageing potential is 30–35 years.

Tasting profile

Very intense ruby red. The bouquet recalls cooked fruit, plum and cherry. The palate is fruit-driven, with coffee and cocoa notes and pronounced balance.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20°C. Pair with rich, strongly flavoured dishes, grilled or roasted red meat, game, and flavoursome or mildly piquant cheeses such as Parmigiano. It can also be served after dinner.

Label / history

The name Costasera refers to the slopes facing the evening sun, regarded by Masi as especially well suited to Amarone.
