About this wine

Vinification

Barolo Pio forms the wine base and is blended with sugar, alcohol and a mixture of herbs. Quinine—“china” in Italian—is the principal botanical.

Tasting profile

Its digestif character reflects the traditional Piedmontese custom of serving Barolo Chinato at the close of lunch or dinner.

Serving and pairing

Best enjoyed after a long meal with family or friends. It can also accompany desserts, particularly dark chocolate.

Label / history

Barolo Chinato belongs to the Revival collection and is produced in very small quantities as an expression of Pio Cesare’s historical roots and Piedmontese tradition. The family discontinued its historical production in the early 1950s as demand shifted toward less traditional aromatized wines and products suited to mixology. The fifth generation resumed production in 2016, drawing inspiration from the old family recipe preserved by Rosy Pio, the third generation, and reviving the historical label.
