About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from two estate-owned plots. Le Prata lies at 507 m above sea level with a south-west exposure, while La Torre is situated at 420 m and faces south-east. The two parcels are vinified and aged separately, then brought together for bottling. The vines are Guyot-trained at a density of 5,952 plants per hectare, with a yield of 55–60 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

100% certified-organic Sangiovese.

Vinification

Long spontaneous fermentations are conducted exclusively by indigenous yeasts, without temperature control. The winemaking description cites the 2018 fermentation as lasting 42 days. The finished wine is not filtered.

Ageing

The wine matures for 42 months in large 30- and 50-hl Slavonian oak casks.

Technical data

Alcohol: 13.5%. Available in 0.75-l, 1.5-l, 3-l and 5-l formats.

Tasting profile

Bright, luminous ruby red with some garnet reflections. The nose is precise and clean, with well-integrated floral aromas. Savoury, almost saline tannins combine with the vintage’s pronounced acidity, producing an elegant wine in a traditional style.

Vintage notes

The 2020 growing season began under the Covid lockdown. Spring brought average temperatures and well-distributed rainfall, allowing careful manual work in vineyards described as resembling gardens. The spring rains built substantial soil-water reserves that helped the vines through a fairly hot summer. September conditions enabled optimal phenolic ripeness.
