Vineyard and terroir
Rio Sordo is a 4.5-hectare MGA with southwest exposure and clay-limestone soils crossed by sandy veins. Grapes for the 2021 release were grown by Alutto and Marengo.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at 30°C. The wine remains on its skins for a 28-day maceration, and malolactic fermentation is completed.
Ageing
Ageing comprises 30 months in oak casks followed by nine months in bottle. The main description specifies oak vessels of 25–50 hl. The 2021 vintage was bottled in May 2025.
Technical data
Production of the 2021 vintage was 13,333 bottles. Cellaring potential is 30 years from the vintage.
Tasting profile
Rio Sordo has an elegant, medium-bodied profile, with spiced fruit and silky, persistent tannins. The 2021 is complex, showing intense ripe red fruit, balanced tannins and a persistent finish.
