About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Serra comes from a vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, an area historically associated with Barolo. The vineyard has varied sunlight exposures.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
For the 2021 vintage, the grapes were sorted, destemmed and crushed after reaching the cellar. Maceration lasted approximately one week and did not exceed 30 °C. Malolactic fermentation finished before the end of winter.
Ageing
The wine matured for at least 18 months in 50 hL oak barrels. Large-format oak and the vineyard’s varied exposures shape its balance and complexity.
Tasting profile
Dark garnet red. The refined nose combines intense small red-fruit aromas with rose, violet, pink pepper and ginger. The palate is elegant and balanced, with pronounced freshness and savory, well-integrated tannins. The persistent finish reprises the fruit found on the nose.
Vintage notes
The 2021 season opened with mild winter weather, precipitation and some snowfall, establishing substantial groundwater reserves. Vine growth began on schedule. Localized frost in mid-April reduced yields without compromising fruit quality. Fair spring weather extended through summer, with seasonally average temperatures, no extreme heat and occasional storms in June and July. Strong day-to-night temperature variation around harvest supported balanced sugar accumulation, freshness and polyphenolic ripeness. Harvest took place on October 20.
Label / history
The 2021 vintage marked the first production of Serra, made in limited quantities.
