About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Ochetti is a historic Nebbiolo originating from sandy and calcareous vineyards in the hills of the Langhe district. Its roots are associated with the sandy hills on the left bank of the Tanaro River, while part of the fruit also comes from Ratti vineyards in the Langhe hills. Wines from this area were known and appreciated in the cellars of the House of Savoy from the seventeenth century.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in September and October, then de-stemmed and pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with approximately 7–8 days of skin contact. Malolactic fermentation is also completed in stainless steel.

Ageing

Approximately eight months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by approximately four months in bottle.

Technical data

Langhe DOC Nebbiolo. The first vintage was 1969.

Tasting profile

Pale ruby red. The nose is fine, delicate and persistent, with nuances recalling wild strawberries and raspberries. The palate is velvety and pleasantly bitter, combining lightness with fullness. Smooth tannins, small-red-fruit fragrance, elegance and harmonious drinkability define its style.

Serving and pairing

Suitable for spit-roasted and grilled red meats, game, truffled fondue, agnolotti, and Italian dishes based on white or red meat, including recipes served with spiced sauces.

Label / history

Renato Ratti created the historic “soldier” label as a tribute to the heroism of Piedmontese regiments in the eighteenth century. Ochetti is bottled in the Albeisa, named after Alba and created by Renato Ratti in 1973 to identify the territory and its wines.
