About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Chardonnay comes from various vineyards belonging to Podere Rocche dei Manzoni in Monforte d’Alba (CN), within the Langhe. The vines are trained to Guyot at a density of 4,000 plants per hectare. Yields average 50–60 quintals per hectare, equivalent to approximately 5–6 tonnes per hectare. Sustainable farming practices are directed toward reducing fungicide use.
Grapes
100% Chardonnay. L’Angelica has been produced since 1989 and is vintage-dated.
Vinification
The grapes undergo gentle white pressing. The resulting must is transferred to small oak barrels, where alcoholic fermentation is completed under controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately 18 months in small oak barrels, followed by approximately 12 months in cement.
Technical data
Available in 750 ml and 1.5 L bottles. Expected cellaring potential is at least 15 years. The technical specifications represent averages across several years and may vary with the vintage.
Tasting profile
Bright, transparent and crystalline in appearance, approaching brilliance. The nose is clean, refined and delicate. Citron peel leads the fruit profile, bringing a fresh citrus character, followed by banana. Elderflower and star anise provide floral and spicy complexity. Oak remains discreet and integrated, while white pepper and restrained toast complete the bouquet.
The palate closely follows the aromas. It is soft, velvety, rounded and enveloping, with well-integrated alcohol supporting the structure. Freshness and savoury character add energy and depth. A powdery texture and subtle chalkiness emerge on the finish. The wine is intense, structured and opulent, yet balanced, with a full presence and a long, deep, clearly defined finish.
