About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from seven small parcels in Bussia. The vineyards face southwest and lie between 420 and 450 metres above sea level. Vines range from 25 to 60 years old. The typical Tortonian soils are rich in fossil-bearing Marne di Sant’Agata.
Viticulture is directed toward low yields, allowing each vine to carry only a small number of compact clusters. The fruit is harvested at full maturity to preserve the identity of the individual sites.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation takes place under a submerged cap for 7–10 days. A long maceration of approximately 80 days follows. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to wood.
Ageing
The wine matures in wood for two years while remaining in contact with its sediment. Further maturation in bottle develops additional complexity.
