About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Vernaccia is grown in the company's vineyards in San Gimignano, in the heart of Tuscany, at around 350 m above sea level. The soils are mainly yellow sandstone and clay-rich material. The climate is continental, moderated by the influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vines are 15 years old on average.
Grapes
The wine is made from selected Vernaccia grapes. To add balance and complexity to aroma and flavour, the blend may include up to 5% of other white varieties.
Vinification
Harvest usually takes place in mid-September, once the grapes reach optimal ripeness. At the winery the grapes undergo overnight cold maceration and are gently pressed the day after harvest. The must is settled at low temperature, then fermented at a controlled 16 °C and aged on the lees in steel vats.
Tasting profile
Well-balanced and refreshing.
Vintage notes
2021: The winter in Tuscany was mild and not particularly rainy, followed by a dry, fairly warm March that brought an early start to the growing season. Mild, rainy weather in April slowed this start. Heavy rain in April and May built up a good water reserve in the soil. May was one of the coolest in recent years, significantly delaying flowering and fruit set. The summer was warm and dry, and September hot and dry, so the grapes ripened slowly over a long period. The wines from this year show excellent structure and very good balance.
