About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
A selection of the best hand-harvested grapes from the estate-owned Vigna a Solatìo vineyard at Casale in San Gimignano, Tuscany.
Grapes
100% Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
Vinification
The hand-picked grapes are softly pressed in pneumatic membrane presses. The must ferments in small French oak barrels in a temperature-controlled room. Frequent bâtonnage prolongs contact with the lees for several months.
Ageing
Fermentation and maturation in small 225-litre oak barrels last approximately 8–10 months. After bottling, the wine refines for at least another 6–8 months before release.
Technical data
Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG Riserva. Minimum alcohol: 13.5% vol.
Tasting profile
Straw yellow with golden highlights that deepen and become warmer with age. The lightly aromatic bouquet combines subtle spices and saffron with tropical fruit, peach and yellow apple. The palate is intense, dry and fruity, with substantial structure and a clean, soft finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 8–10°C. Pair with Tuscan appetizers, saffron-based first and second courses, white meats, fish or shellfish; it can also be served on its own as an aperitif. It can mature well for at least 5–8 years from the vintage.
