About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from Friuli Aquileia, a low-lying area in the south of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy's northeasternmost region. The DOC was granted in 1975 and covers the commune of Aquileia and sixteen communes in the province of Udine. The climate is temperate and maritime, influenced by the nearby Adriatic Sea. In the north the vines grow in alluvial soils of clay and gravel; the south has sandy loess soils. Wines of the zone show particularly expressive aromas.
Vinification
The grapes go to the winery immediately after harvest and are gently pressed while still fresh. Fermentation uses selected yeasts at a controlled 18–20 °C, to preserve the fruit character of the wine.
Label / history
Tenuta Ca' Bolani was acquired by the Zonin family in 1970 and restored. The winery is in Aquileia, an area known for its wines since the Roman Empire. The estate's vineyards cover 550 ha, the largest vineyard area in Northern Italy according to the text. Besides white wines, it makes structured reds, led by Refosco dal Peduncolo, a native Friulian variety.
