About this wine
Vinification
The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation lasts two weeks in temperature-controlled tanks, with skin contact and daily pumping over.
Ageing
Part of the wine ages for one year in new barriques, while the remainder stays in stainless-steel tanks. The two portions are then blended and bottled, followed by a further, unspecified period of rest in the winery’s cellars before release.
Tasting profile
Elegant.
Serving and pairing
Pairs with red meat, game, barbecue, grilled vegetables and mature cheeses.
Vintage notes
The 2019 winter in Friuli was unusually dry and warm, with February temperatures exceeding 20 °C. The vines left dormancy early, and early-ripening varieties began budding in April. Cold weather then returned, bringing heavy rain and substantial snowfall in the mountains. Low temperatures and unsettled conditions persisted into May, slowing the growing cycle, and flowering occurred in early June. July and August were hot and occasionally scorching, with little rainfall but cooler nights. The grapes ripened well overall, although yields fell by approximately 20%.
Label / history
The wine received a silver medal at the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards.
