Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena. The vineyards are situated at 450 m above sea level, with optimal exposure and stony, well-drained soils.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, then destemmed and pressed. Fermentation takes place in cone-shaped vats at a controlled temperature of 27 °C for 7–10 days, followed by 10 days of post-fermentation maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months, with 70% aged in large oak casks and 30% in barriques. It then rests in bottle for a further six months.
Tasting profile
Lively and well balanced, with exceptional aromas and well-integrated tannins.
Serving and pairing
Pairs well with aged cheeses, pasta with game, grilled meats and stews.
Vintage notes
The 2016 winter in Tuscany was cool and wet. Flowering was generally successful, although damp conditions caused a slight reduction in yields. July was hot and dry; August rain brought cooler temperatures and moisture. Rain in September and marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures provided ideal conditions for the grapes to complete ripening.
