Storia
Mid-1970s
A group of friends from the Zurich area, brought together by their shared love of wine, began regularly importing table wine from Montepulciano. As more enthusiasts joined the group, they decided to start a winery of their own.
1987
The group had the opportunity to buy exactly the kind of wine estate they had been looking for in Montepulciano. Canneto, a company registered in Zurich, took ownership of Azienda Agricola Canneto in Montepulciano.
After buying the estate, the new owners began renovating and upgrading its winemaking facilities while working to preserve the spirit and values of the old masters. They built a new wine cellar, purchased new machinery and equipment, and improved the winery grounds and olive grove.
Terroir
Canneto is located in the western part of Montepulciano, near the ornate Church of San Diego, an area with a long winemaking tradition. Most of the vineyards face south and lie at 300-400 metres above sea level. The soils are mixed and complex, consisting mainly of marl with some gravel.
