Storia
1958
In April 1958, eleven winemakers in the Garda area joined forces to establish Cantina Sociale Veronese del Garda. Their aim was to process their grapes together and produce juices and wines with an authentic and consistent character. Proceeds from wine sales were shared among the members according to the quality and quantity of grapes each had supplied. At the time, working as a cooperative was considered essential to improving the way the members worked.
Over the following half-century
The company grew into one of the largest producers of Bardolino DOC and Custoza DOC wines.
Today
The cooperative, now called Cantina Castelnuovo del Garda, brings together more than 260 winemakers, who grow grapes across more than 1200 hectares of hillsides around Lake Garda. It produces around 3 million bottles of wine each year. With a continued focus on improving quality, the company has gradually and steadily expanded the production and sale of IGT and DOC wines, which now account for three quarters of its total output.
