Storia

Origins of the Castle

Tassarolo Castle was built around an 11th-century tower. The castle itself was built in the 12th century and has been preserved in its original form to this day. It stands in the valley between Novi and Gavi in Piedmont.

The Spinola Family

The Spinola family, one of the oldest families in Europe, has owned Tassarolo Castle in Alto Monferrato since the 14th century. Over the centuries, family members included church builders and financiers of the Crusades and of Christopher Columbus's voyages. Tassarolo Castle was once a state in its own right, with its own mint and economy, and winegrowing held a secure and lasting place there from one generation to the next.

Renaissance Expansion

The castle was extended and restored several times, particularly during the Renaissance.

Until the French Revolution

Until the French Revolution, the Spinola family controlled vast territories and had political influence comparable to that of the Medici family in Florence.

Present Day

Today, Castello di Tassarolo is surrounded by vineyards. Massimiliana Spinola, together with enologist Vincenzo Muni, makes five different wines, bringing together the family's traditions and modern winemaking knowledge.
