Storia
1860s: arrival in southern Tuscany
The Mantellassi family, a family of winemakers, moved to southern Tuscany in the 1860s. They farmed the land for almost a hundred years before deciding to make wine and make the most of the local terroir.
1960: first vineyards
In 1960 the family planted its first 4 ha of vines. Over time these plantings grew into four large vineyards close to one another: Le Sentinelle, I Tavoloni, Vigna Vecchia and Il Punton del Sorbo.
1978: Morellino di Scansano
The founders contributed to winemaking in the region and played a part in establishing the Morellino di Scansano wine zone, officially recognized in 1978. The cellar is continually being expanded and modernized, and the winery welcomes visitors.
Terroir
The estate lies in southern Tuscany. The four vineyards are close to one another, and the winery is a short distance from all of them. The winery has a broad view over the surroundings.
Vinificazione
The first 4 ha were planted in 1960. Most of the land is planted with Sangiovese. The vineyards also grow Merlot, Malvasia Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo Nero, Alicante, Vermentino Bianco and Sauvignon Blanc.
The cellar is a short distance from all four vineyards, which keeps the journey from vineyard to winery brief and helps the freshly harvested grapes retain their freshness. The cellar is continually being expanded and modernized.
Filosofia
The winery aims to make the most of the local terroir, and keeps the path from vineyard to cellar short so the grapes stay fresh. It presents itself as one of the region's most prestigious wineries and welcomes visitors.
