Storia
Early 20th century
The land in the Oasi del Gelsomineto was used by the Marchesa di Cassibile to cultivate jasmine flowers. The flowers were subsequently sold to Givenchy.
8 September 1943
A landing took place on the beach adjoining the estate on 8 September 1943.
The present project
Marchesi di Grésy is described as a young agricultural project with deep local roots. It was established in the Oasi del Gelsomineto to produce organic extra virgin olive oil from native cultivars. Its stated purpose is to express the character of the coastal site through careful cultivation, cold pressing and close attention to each stage of production.
Terroir
Marchesi di Grésy is based in the Oasi del Gelsomineto at Avola, in the province of Siracusa on Sicily’s eastern coast. The cultivated land overlooks the Sicilian Sea, and the olive trees are exposed to the sea breeze. Native olive cultivars are grown within this coastal setting.
Filosofia
The project presents respect for the land and local tradition as the basis of its agricultural approach. Its stated objective is to make a natural and distinctive product that conveys the character of the Oasi del Gelsomineto. Sustainable cultivation, careful handling and attention to every production detail are treated as the means of pursuing quality.
