Questo vino

Vineyard and terroir

The wine is made from selected Sangiovese grown in the San Felice estate’s Chianti Classico vineyards at Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena. The medium-textured soils contain abundant stones and are dominated by calcareous marl derived from decomposed Alberese and Galestro limestone. Vines are trained to spur-pruned cordon.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

Harvest extends from the second week of September to the first week of October. Fermentation and maceration on the skins last 18–20 days at 28–30 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24 months: 80% in 60- or 90-hL Slavonian oak casks and 20% in 225-litre French oak barriques. It then receives approximately six months of bottle ageing.

Technical data

The 2022 has 13.5% alcohol, total acidity of 5.8 g/L and less than 0.5 g/L residual sugar. Formats comprise 0.375, 0.75, 1.5, 3 and 5 L. Cellaring potential is ten years.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. Rich, persistent aromas evoke violets and wild red berries. The palate is full-bodied yet lean and firm, with succulent tannins and lively, tangy acidity.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18 °C with meat-sauced first courses, roast pigeon or grilled steak.

Vintage notes

The 2022 season avoided extreme weather. High summer temperatures were moderated by rain in mid-August, supporting even ripening. The Sangiovese harvest started slightly ahead of schedule in the second week of September and finished smoothly about one month later.

Label / history

The label reproduces Titian’s celebrated portrait of a medieval knight in armor, connecting the Riserva’s traditional identity with its modern production approach.
