Vineyard and terroir

I Bricchi comes from a 4.5 ha Barbera parcel in the municipality of Acqui Terme, within the Bricchi estate near the border with Castel Rocchero. The parcel lies at 400 m above sea level at coordinates 44.707462, 8.418973 and was planted in 2005. Its soil is predominantly clay with a small proportion of sand.

The technical sheet identifies the parcel’s exposure as east. The broader description on the wine page places the estate vineyards between 350 m and over 400 m and describes them as predominantly south-west-facing.

Grapes

100% Barbera.

Vinification

The wine macerates on its skins for 15 days in steel tanks, with two manual pump-overs each day. Following alcoholic fermentation, it is racked into steel tanks, where malolactic fermentation is completed.

Ageing

Ageing lasts 22 months in a 50 hL barrel made from French Allier oak. After bottling, the wine rests for a further six months before release.

Technical data

The wine is offered in 0.75 L and 1.5 L formats. It is packaged in a custom amber Burgundy bottle with an elongated neck and the Scarpa trademark embossed in the glass. Its stated longevity exceeds 20 years.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. The bouquet centres on ripe red fruit, especially plum and wild cherry, with herbaceous nuances in the background. The palate has a medium-structured body, good freshness and light tannin, finishing with mineral notes.

Serving and pairing

Pair with agnolotti, stews and roasted meats. More specific suggestions include tagliatelle with meat ragù, meat-filled agnolotti del plin and lasagne alla bolognese.
