Vineyard and terroir

La Bogliona comes from the 3.5-hectare Bricchi estate vineyard, situated around the boundary between Castel Rocchero and Acqui Terme. The technical sheet identifies the municipality as Acqui Terme and gives the vineyard coordinates as 44.706570, 8.415618. The vines were planted in 1970.

The vineyard rises from approximately 350 m to more than 400 m above sea level and faces predominantly South-West. Its soils combine clay and sand and contain trace elements including magnesium.

Grapes

Barbera.

Vinification

The must macerates on its skins for 18 days in 54 hL wooden vats. Two manual pump-overs are performed daily. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine is racked into steel tanks, where malolactic fermentation concludes.

Ageing

The wine matures for 32 months in 45 hL barrels made from French Allier oak, then spends approximately 6 months in steel. It rests for a further 4 months after bottling before release.

Technical data

The wine is packaged in an elongated-neck Burgundy bottle made from amber-coloured glass exclusively for Scarpa, with the winery trademark impressed into the glass. Available formats are 0.75 L and 1.5 L.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. The bouquet centres on ripe black fruit, particularly intense blackberry, alongside plum, cherry and raspberry. Leather and woodland-floor nuances add savoury complexity. The palate is full-bodied and notably fresh, with developing tannins and a long finish marked by mineral notes.

Serving and pairing

Pair with agnolotti, Piedmontese bollito misto, medium-aged cheeses, Cantonese duck, roast turkey, slow-roasted veal, ossobuco, veal tail, veal-tongue carpaccio with green sauce, entrecôte or roast pork shank. Its stated longevity exceeds 25 years.
