Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from organically managed vineyards in Roseto degli Abruzzi, Abruzzo, at approximately 200 metres above sea level. The clay-loam terrain is partly sandy and contains a substantial stony component. Planting density ranges from 1,600 vines per hectare under the tendone system to 5,000 vines per hectare in rows.
Grapes
100% Montepulciano.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, normally between late September and the first ten days of October. Following destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation and maceration take place in stainless-steel tanks for 10–12 days at 26–28°C. Malolactic fermentation follows the completion of alcoholic fermentation.
Ageing
A portion of the wine undergoes a brief period of maturation in oak barrels.
Tasting profile
Ruby red with purple reflections. The bouquet is led by fresh red fruit and strawberries. Medium-bodied on the palate, it balances tannins, structure and acidity and finishes with persistent, concentrated fruit.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C in a medium-sized, approximately spherical glass designed to concentrate its complex aromas. Pair with roast lamb; red meat is also suggested.
Label / history
First produced in 2003, Montipagano was conceived as an approachable yet distinctive expression of Montepulciano, emphasizing fruit, a clean finish and balance among tannins, structure and acidity. The wine is certified organic.
