Storia
1998 — Acquisition and entry into Maremma
Prince Girolamo Strozzi acquired Tenuta Poggio Moreto in 1998. It was his first major investment in Maremma and was presented as an estate devoted to Morellino. The property in the municipality of Scansano occupied a single hill planted principally with Sangiovese, alongside the complementary Ciliegiolo and experimental Malbec.
2004 — Completion of the vinification cellar
Work on the estate’s vinification cellar was completed in 2004. Rather than constructing an entirely separate facility, the project enlarged and modified the cellar that already existed on the property.
Terroir
Tenuta Poggio Moreto is situated in the municipality of Scansano, in Tuscany’s Maremma. The property and its vineyards extend over a single hill.
Vinificazione
Sangiovese forms the core of the estate’s plantings. Ciliegiolo is cultivated as a complementary variety, while Malbec was introduced on an experimental basis.
Tenuta Poggio Moreto has its own vinification cellar. A project to enlarge and modify the pre-existing facility was completed in 2004.
Filosofia
Prince Girolamo Strozzi’s activity in Maremma was framed around commitment, personal involvement and the development of innovative wines. Tenuta Poggio Moreto formed the first major estate investment in that program, centred on Sangiovese and Morellino in Scansano while also accommodating experimental Malbec plantings.
