Vineyard and terroir

Ronco Vigna Traverso lies at Castello di Albana near the Judrio river in Prepotto. The vines grow at 160 m above sea level with a south-eastern exposure. The soil contains abundant stones and minerals transported by the Judrio from the Julian Prealps. The vines are trained to the short Sylvoz system, with yields of 8,000–10,000 kg/ha.

Grapes

100% Pinot Grigio. The variety reached Friuli from France more than a century ago.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand into crates in early September and gently pressed. After cold static settling, the must undergoes alcoholic fermentation at a controlled 16–17°C to retain its delicate aromatic character.

Ageing

The wine remains on its fine lees until the spring following harvest and is then bottled.

Tasting profile

A dry, straw-yellow white with golden reflections. Acacia blossom, Williams pear and Golden Delicious apple shape the bouquet. The palate is rounded, balanced and pleasantly bitter-edged.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 8–10°C with prosciutto, fresh cheeses, first courses, white meats and especially fish.
