Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in the municipality of Prepotto, Province of Udine, at 160 m above sea level, with a south-eastern exposure. They occupy the hilly Ronco area, where the soil has a substantial clay component known locally as ponca. The vines are trained using the Guyot system and yield 7,000–8,000 kg per hectare.
Grapes
100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, an old indigenous Friulian variety represented by several clones. Its name refers to the pedicel attaching each berry to the bunch, which turns red before harvest.
Vinification
The grapes are picked manually into crates in late September, then destemmed and crushed. Maceration lasts approximately 10 days and includes daily délestage. Malolactic fermentation is completed in wood.
Ageing
The wine matures for 11 months in second-use wooden barriques, followed by further bottle ageing.
